when there's no more room left in hell... well... you get the idea.

as i sit, crying in agony over the headcold i'm currently fighting, while listening to terry reid's, "seed of memory," on top of thinking complex thought's towards the show, "lost,"... something pops in my head. an image of a decayed corpse, dried out and boned, gnawing on my brain... hmmm...

in recent years, there's been a surplus of over-saturated zombie stories. wether it be in videogames, comicbooks, the movies, or your own backyard... zombies are the new pauly shore of the 2000's.

it kinda made a re-surface with robert kirkman's comic, "the walking dead." that and the hype over the horrible resident evil movies... even george romero made a brief comeback that let down most of his core audience with, "land of the dead."

i gotta admit, "land of the dead," does hold a soft spot in my heart as a guilty pleasure, much like stephen sommers, "van helsing," does.

...bad films i know, cheesy with terrible dialogue and over-budgeted, and poorly acted, but something about them makes me giggle.

that being said, i have two reviews, for two different videogames, concerning... zombies.

dead rising.

dead rising is one of those rare next-gen games we've all been looking forward to. it's zombies, a typical mall, next-gen "graphics," and a new cast of characters set apart from capcom's, "resident evil," saga.

i'm not sure what to really think of this game. part of me wants to love it for what it was hyped up to be, and the other part of me feels cheated in some way that i just can't put my finger on.

i hate not being able to have a proper save function in my gameplay. having save points scarce and scattered is a pain in the ass, and having a time limit to deal with, that loses time when you do save your game is no help either.

the graphics are okay. they're not great. not as good as, "resident evil 4," by a long shot, and i don't think we'll truly see, "next-gen," graphics until, "gears of war," comes out, and even then, it'll be a few years before any company tackles the potential the 360 is capable of.

there are fun points to the game. the creative ways they give you to end a zombie's tyrant, and being able to dress up like mega man is funny, but the game lacks an interesting story in my opinion.

zombies in a mall has been done before, and giving the game an almost rpg feel to it doesn't set it apart from anything else.

when i sit to think about the gameplay and how it's set-up, it gives me those cold chills i got playing through spiderman 2. doing shitty little side missions to kill time or advance the story along. it gets bland and boring.

all in all, it's something worth downloading the demo for if you have xbox live, but it's not something i would have layed down sixty bones for, had the demo shown the parts of the game i dislike rather than the fun decapatating gore that it gave me for fifteen minutes.

stubbs the zombie in, rebel without a pulse.

stubbs the zombie in rebel without a pulse is just as much fun as it sounds. it's campy, gory in a cartoon sort of way, and fun.

one of the reason i truly dig this game is the same for why i dig on, "destroy all humans,"... it's an era piece, set in the 40's/50's, and has that vintage humor/fear feel. "the martians are landing, it's war of the worlds, yada yada yada..."

the story is set in the fifties i gather, but it's the futuristic era with flying cars and helpful robots.

you, stubbs the zombie, just pop out of the ground and eat a young couple enjoying a hotdog picnic.

the game's core purpose is to take over the town by simply turning all the townsfolk into the undead, and building a legion of zombies. that's it.

your moves? how about blasting a green, sideous gassy fart that stuns those around you long enough to devour their brains and turn them into one of you... how about clawing them to death... how about throwing pieces of your abdomen at humans, and then detonating them as if they were grenades??? oh yes... you have some sweet moves...

the game is mindless on the level of jaws: unleashed, but plays just like halo considering it was built on the halo engine. it's fun and goofy with the style of halo. and it can't get no better than that.

other forms of fun.

why not buy one of the many items i need, and give it to me for being awesome?...
